ABOUT US
We, Hans-Peter Flöther (Hansi) and Annerose Engels (Anne) live with our dogs in the southern Black Forest. Well-known excursion destinations such as Feldberg, Belchen, Schauinsland and Titisee are not far from here. Half an hour's drive to Basel and about 10 minutes to France.
We live in a single-family house with a large garden in Mengen, a small village in the Markgräflerland with many meadows and fields, approx. 10 km south of Freiburg. Ideal for dog walks.

When we made the concrete decision to become a Briard breeder, we noticed that we were actually well on the way there. It wasn't always easy, labor-intensive, with ups and downs, but still a great time with the dogs.
The Briard is by nature a confident and dominant dog. A very human-related pack animal and feels most comfortable as a fully accepted family member. He's not a dog that you just have on the side. It is necessary to refer him to his right place in the hierarchy in the pack (family) with certainty, loving consistency and humor.
The Briard is a charmer, before you know it, he has you wrapped around his finger (paw) and he is the boss in the house. With his charm he will try to get his own way.
Sometimes it is also difficult for us to resist this "heart with hair around it".
But remember, you have to invest time and work, it is a family dog, not a toy for children. He will show the children a certain obedience to the children as playmates when they play together, but the Briard will never accept the children as pack leaders.

Ribana
Dawida los pequenos banditos
Our Ribana wins everyone over with her friendly behavior and balanced nature. Her nickname "Ribana" means "noble flower of the mountains".
She is the mom of the D and E litter and the good soul in our pack. She is now enjoying her retirement.

Our goal in rearing is to breed dogs of solid nature with a friendly character and balanced demeanor.
When choosing the parent animals, you have to consider and weigh up a lot, e.g. morphology, fur, color, character, ... etc. When the puppies are finally there, they will grow up in our (dog) family in the house and garden. The whelping box with an outlet is in the living room and a large part of the garden is separated as a puppy playground. From the 3rd week of life, the puppies can also receive visitors. In this phase it is very important to imprint the puppies on people, especially children. The puppies are confronted with different situations and noises in order to prepare them for later life.
The mother dog, breeder and other four-legged friends in the house challenge and encourage the puppies in a playful way. But after eight weeks, when the cubs leave their nest and go to their families, you are rather challenged to buy a puppy and the Briard will test whether you too can meet his requirements.
With heart and dog mind you will also master this and have a lot of fun with your Briard.
